Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.
Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up) --Patty Campbell

男性読者は注意が必要。 Date：2010-02-09 おすすめ度  以前から素敵な表紙で気になっていたこの本。英文は読みやすいのですが、僕は最後まで登場人物たちに感情移入できませんでした。ヴァンパイヤだけにありえない能力を発揮し、何でもありの展開になってしまうんですもの。ある意味、少女趣味のファンタジーというのは30代男性とは最も相容れないジャンルかもしれません。そもそも内容もよく知らずに購入したのがいけなかったのですが…。というわけで、男性読者は注意が必要です。 |

おばさんはまる Date：2010-01-21 おすすめ度 知り合いの若い娘２人が読んでいたので興味を持った。読み終わって置いてあった本をちょっと読み始めたら、これがとまらない。おばさんも夢中。Edwardって、女の子の夢だわさ。何でもできて、美しくて、強くてやさしくて。英語も簡単。恋人同士の会話のやりとりもかわいらしい。人物、その他の設定も巧み。キスしたくてたまらないけど、相手を殺してしまいそうで・・とか。つぎつぎ災難を引き寄せるので、守らずにはいられない主人公の女の子とか。後半サスペンス調になって、一気に読ませる。お薦めの一冊です。 |

iPhoneで読むことができます。 Date：2010-01-03 おすすめ度  内容は、あんまり難解な表現もなく、主人公の悩める内面に関連した表現ばかりで、前半は冗長です。でも後半から楽しめますので、おすすめです。 ちなみに、iPhone上でKindleを使って読んでいます。届くのを待たずに読めますし、こちらの方が安くて持ち運びも便利です。 |

成る程ね Date：2010-01-02 おすすめ度  毎朝の通勤電車で読み、終えるのに一月かかりました。感想は「あと3冊も読む。辛いマラソンの気持ちで」こんな感じです。 楽しく読む価値のある本でしょうが、対象読者層と恐らく30年ほどずれているのが辛い理由に過ぎません。 若い振りしてあと3冊がんばります。 |
