   本作は1967年の同名映画にベースにしているが、中身はほぼ一新されている。作曲家ジーニン・テソーリ（『Violet』）と作詞家ディック・スキャンランがほとんど全曲を書き下ろしているが、ジミー・ヴァンヒューゼンとサミー・カーンによるタイトル曲を含む2曲が映画からそのまま残り、それに、さらに昔のナンバー（ビクター・ハーバートの「I'm Falling in Love with Someone」と独創的なアレンジの「Nuttycracker Suite」）も再利用されている。だが奇跡的なことに、ジャズ・エイジを舞台にしたこのミュージカルの音楽は、寄せ集めのようには感じさせず、テソーリは軽快なメロディーを次から次へとくり出す。サットン・フォスターはミリー役にぴったりのふてぶてしさだが、「Gimme Gimme」の出だしでは声を落としている（もちろん、歌がクライマックスに近づくに連れ、声をしだいに張り上げている）。そして、腹黒いミセス・ミアーズ役のハリエット・ハリスによる「They Don't Know」は主役の座を奪うほどだ。目を閉じてその声に耳をすませれば、ブロードウェイの黄金時代にタイプスリップできることだろう。（Elisabeth Vincentelli, Amazon.com）
